Test Power Source for Dynon HDX Display

I am in the process of installing the avionics to my RV8. One of the first items to be installed and powered on is the Dynon HDX display. What is the convenient way to provide safe power to the Dynon display for bench testing?

Can something like this work safely with bench testing?

I am also providing a 5A fuse circuit protection between the power supply source and the Dynon display.

Well, that should work. Skip the fuse, that power supply already has one. Make sure you don’t accidentally go over 14 volts. Many people would just hook up a car battery (with a fuse); re-charge the battery over night. Because of the small pins you’ll need to make some wires with pins on them at one end, bare wire (for the alligator clips on the other end.)

I used pretty much the exact same bench power supply to test my HDX. Worked flawlessly.

There is no issue going over 14 volts. The Skyview system is rated for use on 24V systems, and IIRC a post from the Dynon folk, said it 'could' tolerate upto 32 volts.
 
Thanks for this info. This makes me feel better about not accidentally damage the display in case of slight over voltage.
 
I suggest something with 30A capability

The one I have, from Amazon, will handle 30amps and allows you to tweak the voltage (I use 13.8) ---- I can fire up everything on my panel with the unit, which makes it really great for troubleshooting, and, sitting in the plane making airplane noises and learning all of the buttonology on the EFIS, navigators and autopilot.

Keep in mind that while the SkyView will handle over voltage the other stuff in your panel may not (e.g. GTN-650), and you will want to run the whole panel to do all your configuration work.

Just be careful with the voltage control on the Power Supply. My little 30 amp unit has a detent at 13.8vdc that makes it easy to set before powering it up. The top voltage is 16.0vdc.

I've used that same power supply (or one very like it from China), to power the whole panel in a C182. No problems at all. I was VERY cautious in the beginning to only turn on one thing at a time.. It runs an IFD540 (GPS), AXP340 (XPNDR), PMA450B (Audio) & KX155 (Radio) in my case (although most of the time I have only the GPS on to keep the power supply happy and cool). If you're just running a Skyview you should be just fine.

It's fantastic for making airplane noises on the ground --- err I mean getting to fully understand all modes of the avionics before taking to the air.
