Can anyone tell me the pressure spec for an RV-4 gas strut? 30 lbs.? 50? 75? Mine is ineffective and need to be replaced.

It should be printed on the side of the gas spring cylinder -- number is in Newtons (100N, 150N and so on...).

Orr & Orr is a good source for these.

The strut I am using is from McMaster Carr part# 4138T561 it is a 15 pound strut and it seems just about right.

No pressure on mine

Mine is a zero pressure damper type strut. I don't feel the need for any lift assist, or additional wear/tear on on the canopy assembly from pressure, but the zero pressure damper strut prevents blow overs and hard drops. Mine is liberated from an airliner overhead bin door. Since it was never on the original plans, its a builders choice item and never really called out for pressure rating. They sure beat the string that the plans call for !
