FWF hose replacement - aviation fittings on Summit hose?

Since I’ll be swapping engines soon I plan to replace my FWF hoses (save for a couple Teflon hoses I bought from Tom last year). To save money I was looking at reusing the fittings. So, as the title says, can I just buy AN hose from Summit and still reuse my aviation fittings? Are there equivalency issues?

As a side note, is there a way to actually positively identify the old fitting and hose parts? Obviously they pre-date my ownership and all I can see is the size stamped on the fittings (-4, -6).

Yes

AN fittings are absolutely reusable if in good shape.
Takes a special too, to remove them and to install them.
I buy hose from aircraft spruce.

There are different fittings for different hose types. If you had the typical Russel or Earl's AN fittings, then yes you could reuse them with summit hose. I am not sure if the aviation fittings are for the same hose dimensions and have my suspicions they are not (fabric vs SS braiding). Research required here.

I would not use summit hose or fittings on my plane though I have used it on all my cars. I use only top brand fittings, like Earls, and only use the Aeroquip branded hose, though I use their general hose, not the aviation hose. Just not worth $10 to risk quality issues. While summit tends not to use rock bottom quality stuff in the private label products, there is a reason it is cheaper than the branded stuff and not always just markup and advertising. Having just gone through a painful issue due to rubber breaking down in my fuel system and plugging injectors, this rings more true than ever. In my case, I think it was the pump diaphragm, but no real way to identify the source.

UH---701 hose and fittings do not require any special tools like mandrels, etc. A vise is handy, and well gee a cresent wrench can be used too. The fittings are of 2 varieties, a long stem and 'cutter' style. REMEMBER, the original 701 style hose, assuming thats what you have, is sized to be used with the corresponding hose ends.

Other manufacturers hose, other than Mil Spec hose---may not have the same actual dimensions. CHECK THIS--.

Generally not a good idea to interchange hose ends and hose from different manufacturers----UNLESS all are made to Mil Spec.

Hose and fitting identification

I borrowed a mandrel set and took apart some hoses today to try and figure out what was on there. The -4 hoses appear to be Aeroquip 491 fittings, the -6 816 w/ 516 collar. From the Spruce listings these mate with 303 and 601 hose, respectively. At the same time, from pictures the equivalent Stratoflex parts look the same. Are they interchangeable?

My fuel pressure line was a bit stranger, and may be an auto line. I’ve attached pictures as none of the aircraft listings appear to match. Would that fitting be worth reusing or replacing?

The 303 and 601/701 hose are Mil SPec---so the Aeroquip and Stratoflex fittings can be used for both. The other hose is an SAE 100R5 hose (it appears) and although is the same dimensions as 303, its not Mil Spec. The Steel collars are a dead giveaway. Used more for industrial applications for field repair.
