Interesting ...

I would have said zero until I read some of your lists and saw Key West and St Simons Island. But hey, what about Galveston that airport is on an island. Good flight objective. If the site maintained an island record for everyone that flies to an island and reports it ... but then someone would want a similar list for every state they landed in, etc. Never mind.

Short List

Vancouver Island, BC
Prince Edward Island
Mackinac, MI

Looks like I need to do some Island hunting. Thanks for all the great ideas.:)

Long Island, NY

Of Course Long Island, New York counts, Vlad! It is a body of land surrounded on all sides by water. Thus it IS an Island. In addition I will list a few Aviation related highlights Long Island is known for:

-Charles Lindergh took off for Paris from Roosevelt Field in 1927
-Home of Grumman Aerospace, which in addition to countless military aircraft was the chief contractor of the Lunar Module
-Former home of Republic Aviation of P-47 fame (as well as countless other great airplanes)
-Home of Floyd Bennet Field which was the starting point for many flights by pilots named Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post, Roscoe Turner and none other than Howard Hughes

So by all means do include Long Island on your list. And drop me a note next time you are stopping by Gabreski Airport for food. My treat!

If I stopped there TK would be REALLY mad. He was texting with capital letters already :D

Marco Island airport is not on the island:(

Oh I knew number 13 wasn't lucky. The local tribesmen say it's in the marshes and should be an island. Call sign looks correct too :D

I landed at KCOI and was very surprised to see busy flight school there.

Argument accepted :D

Your aprs track fooled me. KCOI shares the same frequency with us. It seems that they are always busy.

It Looks and Acts Like an Island...

Therefore it must be an Island.... Rosecrans Memorial Airport (KSTJ). I was just there this past week. When the Corp of Engineers decided to relocate the Missouri river they pretty much made an island out of the airport. It is surrounded by water and you have to cross a bridge to get over the old river route. The airport is more in Kansas than it is in Missouri now.

rosecrans.gif

Lots of Missouri ANG C130 Hercs flying out of there as well. So the question is, does it count?

Regards,

It may take 10 years to catch on Jay Pratt and Rosie but I will try. Two more to the file

16. Sunbury PA 71N

17. NK17 :D

Hey Vlad-

I think you're missing Kent Island / Bay Bridge Airport(W29) from your list. Don't short-change yourself!

washington island WI

It looks like only Mr. Pratt has flown into 2P2 Washington Island Airport in Wisconsin, this is a nice grass strip on a nice island and is very close to EAA grounds. So all of you Island collectors coming to Oshkosh this year can stop in 2P2.
http://airnav.com/airport/2P2

Began and completed my PPL training at KCOF, as well as first solo, on a very long, very narrow island while an engineering co-op at Kennedy Space Center:
02108.jpg

Kept the rust off with a few lessons at KDKX during the time I had to go back to school in Knoxville, as well as the site of the first exercising of my PPL priveleges:

3W3 Kentmorr Airpark

18. One more island conquered thanks Mike. Kent Island, Maryland. Grass is good and runway wide. I "cheated" on the wind it was unusually strong and gusty. Parked non standard :)

OK since this has been revived, I can add the following after my latest big trip:

22. St Simon's Island
23. Baffin Island

Lake Erie Islands

I had a guest from Russia today. He wanted to fly and it was a quick decision to where. We went around the corner for a short island hop. :D

19. North Bass Island
20. Middle Bass Island
21. South Bass Island
22. Kelleys Island

All islands have very well maintained runways. Put-in-Bay has $10 landing fee and they rent golf carts for $15 an hour. Subway sandwich was cheaper then in NJ.

nice lists!

my islands so far:

With the RV:
- Corfu, Greece
- Milos, Greece
- Santorini, Greece
- Rhodes, Greece
- Karpathos, Greece
- Crete, Greece
- Losinj, Croatia

with other GA aircraft:
- Wangerooge, Germany
- Juist, Germany

have plans for some more islands in the future...

rgds, bernie

Islands of Maine

23. Matinicus.
24. Vinalhaven.
25. North Haven.
26. Bear Island.
27. Islesboro.

It's tough to beat Mark, Rosie, Jay and Bernie but give me couple years :D

my count - '0', ......but how about going to France?

Hoping that Alfio or others read this.....why not visit France?
The islands of St. Pierre & Miquelon are just a few miles off the coast of Newfoundland, if I recall.
You have to land at the big airport to clear customs, at St. Pierre, but then there's a nice 3300' paved strip at Miquelon.
24 hr Prior notice required, and if you want ATC in English!
...... so they Do try to accommodate!
