Roller cam / valve rotation ? I

Larry DeCamp

Well Known Member
Roller followers don’t rotate the push rod. Assuming the rocker arm tip is still an angled surface and the valve stem is flat, does a roller cam rotate the valve less than a flat follower ? If so, does that matter ?

Whether or not the pushrod rotates should not affect what the rocker arm does to the valve rotation (or lack of valve rotation)

Thanks Kieth

So why do they make such a big deal out of flat followers are slightly crowned and the cam lobe is tapered ? Just trying to get educated.

My bad, sorry !

The cam taper and follower crown is to avoid a “divit”in the follower surface.
The tapered rocker tip does the valve rotation.
