What did you do with your RV this Weekend (2/13/21 - 2/14/21)

This weekend

Many years later, but I am teaching again on weekends as a level 2 PSIA ski instructor at a family friendly ski area, it feels good teaching again. Had a blast teaching over the past few days. Got off early today and did a flyby over Spring Mountain Ski Area.

Battled a 40 knot headwind flying from SoCal to NorCal.
Enjoyed a 35 knot tailwind flying from NorCal to SoCal.

This weekend, the upgrade to a faster airplane was a good thing. Saved us 17 minutes up, 13 minutes coming home....

Saturday we flew IFR from LGB to CRQ and joined the 200 knot club.

The high temps here have been below zero F for two weeks... This weekend's temps ranged from -30 to a high of -10, so, to answer the threads question - nothing.

Thought about it a lot. Downloaded databases. Something about 200' ceilings and 1/4 mile in fog that I let discourage me...

Cancelled my Florida fishing trip with my brother, icing on the flight there and back and thunderstorms while we were going to be there. Home improvement projects and a little hunting in single digit temps instead.

I worked on installing a landing light on C-GERZ. (Don’t know why the picture is upside down...)

Worked on the installation of a heated pitot. One step closer to IFR capability.

Just need to string the wires and hook everything up.

First attempt at Sawtooth Climb tests - I need more practice. Paul Dye generously suggested a technique in another thread. I'll try that next time.

However, so as to not make the flight a total loss (not that any flight in an RV is a waste), I also checked out the duck hunting and fishing ponds (Crane and Pentucket ponds) to see if the ice stretched to the shore. Lately it's been too warm for any appreciable ice build up on these ponds but we've had a cold snap. Would like to get a little ice fishing in. Looked good Saturday but today it's warm and raining.

First Pentucket and then Crane's:

Early morning takeoff 7L KDVT

Not to make you Texans feel bad but early morning in Arizona can be great flying. Went to Payson and on the return there was plenty of snow, but not as much as Texas.

Jerry,
Your sunrise picture is beautiful.
Perhaps you should have it blown up for your hanger wall as well.

Happy Landings,
Daddyman

3 day trip to Borrego Valley

Great trip to Borrego Springs. Inspired by an article in AOPA magazine. La Casa Del Zorro does airport pickups.
