Dimpling on a Curved Surface

Hi All,

Working on my RV-14 tailcone. Regarding part F-01479 (.040 thick) Aft Bottom Skin. This part is rounded along the rivet lines. Flush-head rivets (AN426AD3-X) are used on this part.

My question is this: When dimpling, wouldn't the process flatten the skin in the dimpled area? Wouldn't this cause flat areas beyond the diameter of the rivet head?

I didn't have any problems with dimpling the tail cone on my -6A that is also .040. The metal is slightly springy so that probably helps, but if it bothers you then it is structurally acceptable to machine countersink .040 for 3/32 rivets.
