Need advice routing pitot tubes through the wing

Hi guys,

I own a completed and flying RV8. I'm adding an Alpha Systems AOA, and need to get 2 pitot tubes from the right outboard inspection panel into the cockpit.

How should I route/secure these in the wing?

There is an aluminum raceway that the wingtip lights run in, but I don't have a way to get in there. Unless I run the tubes in from the wingtip, then loop them back inboard to the pitot through the rib lightening holes?

Or I could run the tubes down the wing through the lightening holes, and secure them to each rib with a 3/32" hole in the rib for a zip tie?

Any advice here is appreciated, I can provide pics later today.

Been there, done that

Moe,
I, too, had to run an AOA line from the cockpit to the pitot on a finished 7A. Send me an email or PM me with your email and I’ll send you the details.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul, please share the wealth. I’m going to do the same thing in my 7…. Thanks in advance…. Tom

lots of ways to do this. If you need to go through the lightening holes for part/all of the run, there's a fitting for that. It's basically a wire tie saddle mount on the end of an L shaped leg that has a hole for a rivet.

I've got some in my stash with the L made out of aluminum. I bought them surplus, but as I recall they have a Cessna or Beech part number.

Stein sells a similar setup that's all nylon and preformed to account for the lip of a lightening hole.

Here's a link to Stein's version.

I did it by using pex tubing 3/4 works fine. Drill on the rib with the size bit and location vans recommends just enough to use safety wire or zip ties. Then drill the pex at the locations you will zip tie perpendicular on the tube as close to one of the walls of the tube as possible. Then run it through the wing tip to put it in its place, zip tie and run wires. If you do it right your tube will align almost perfectly with a hole you must drill through the main rib to get into the floor of the cockpit. I did this on an RV8a it should be similar for you.

I have a different question
My AOA and pitot lines are run into the cabin next to
The push rod. I have the Vans Dynon bracket for the ADAHRS
What's the best path to get my lines to the ADAHRS?

Does the ADAHRS Bracket have to be level for an Advanced Flight Systems EFIs? Mine is 2 degree off

The SteinAir Cable Tie Holder is a nice solution, but it seems a little pricey, even by Aircraft Parts standards. Just my thought.

I assumed that running anything next to the pushrod was a bad idea and my A&P confirmed.

I just riveted the bracket in as illustrated in the instructions, did not do any leveling (didn't even check). It's angled and cut to be appropriately level when riveted in to an RV-7 or RV-9.

My tubing runs from the cockpit entry to the tunnel, then back through the baggage bulkhead and up to the ADAHRS. The wiring harness down to the tunnel then forward in the tunnel and through the bulkhead to the Skyview network box. Yes...that tunnel is extremely crowded.

I ended up putting a raceway made from a piece of pex as someone suggested, secured with these awesome wing rib clips.

Worked great.
