What plane is this?

Who are you asking 'What plane is this in?'. My plane is an RV6 that I race. Your facebook picture does not show up. If its on your facebook page, it won't show unless you make it public. Upload your pic(s) to this forum instead.

201 knot RV-8

At 11,000 feet. The TAS and tailwind was stronger at 9000, but higher gives more options, as well as better fuel burn on a recent ferry flight.

Flying to Groton, Connecticut one morning and noticed a good tailwind. I decided to push on the accelerator a little.

Tailwinds to Daytona

Flew from La Porte (KPPO) to Daytona Beach (KDAB) last Sunday on the front side of a monster high pressure system. Gave my Mountain High O2S2 system a test on the first leg to Anderson, SC cruising at 15,000 for the 2.6 hour flight. Top ground speed was 223 KTS at 6.6 gph running LOP. The photo was just after level off and getting settled in for the beautiful dawn flight.

The photo documents 219 KTS ground speed, 154 KTS TAS running LOP with a 65 knot tailwind. Typically can top out about 166 KTS TAS at 8,000 best power.

Crazy west winds today out here in Texas, I had to make a daytrip to Dallas and back to bring a friend up for a medical visit. The winds gave me yet another entry, but we paid for it on the way back.

My first posting in this thread was just to get me on the board. I keep forgetting to update it to a more respectable number. The first picture below was from late October of this year. I was coming home from Steamboat Springs (KSBS) to my house near Denver (CO12). I was admittedly in a 700fpm descent out of about 12,000'. I love the ability to climb straight to 14,500' out of SBS and head more or less direct to CO12.

The second pic is of the map display from the company's Airbus 320. The display in the upper left corner shows a ground speed of 620kts with a true airspeed of 459kts. The wind vector and speed is just below. The winds have been significant over the last week or two. Makes eastbound flights quick, but westbound is peddling uphill! This particular flight was from KSAN to KDEN. 1hr35min flight time. I haven't been diligent about keeping records, but I'm pretty sure this is the fastest groundspeed I've ever seen.

Our turn

Once again we had the experience of watching the ground speed exceed 200 knots. Because of the weather map for eastern half of the country this week, we left N TX on Sunday for N Indiana in our RV10 and then continued east to New Hampshire on Monday. On the second leg on Monday, we had a great tail wind for a long time and enjoyed the speed. Check out our spot tracking map below.

Keep pounding those rivets folks!

I had a couple really high speeds yesterday morning, going east to Longview for work. At 17,500' I had a direct tailwind that peaked around 66 knots, I saw 219 knots ground speed in level cruise at one point near top-of-descent and 236 in the descent with power pulled back.

Outside of the obvious few race-modified aircraft, that's pretty quick for an RV!

Hey Greg,
At those speeds, how long did your trip take from Lubbock to Longview?

220 kts in an RV-8

Gotta love the Wyoming winter winds aloft - when you're headed southeast, anyway! Recently saw record high (and low) ground speeds in my RV-8:

RV-6 with an IO-320 and a ripper of a tailwind, 200 knots GS shortly before commencing descent into Sydney.

Two days earlier I was going the other way with a 48 knot headwind, so it was nice to see things even out a bit for a change.

Best yet

Been north several times, but I think yesterday was the best yet. Did a quick RT from Camas, WA (1W1) to Sunriver (S21) with a buddy. had a heck of a crosswind (saw 86Kt at one point).

Made a turn to get it on the tail for a min to see what we'd get. Wish we'd played around a little more to see what we could get it up to playing a bit with mixture/prop. I think we were a little too rich and could have squeaked out a couple more knots, but it was a little choppy and needed to get home.

Hmm. I've seen 215 in the RV-9A with the big wing and smaller engine (O-320). I wonder what the other RV-9/A flights have achieved?

And when somebody hits 200 kt in an RV-12, that will be something! (Maybe poor judgment to fly in that much wind...)

Ed, I hit 202 knots yesterday. That is my fastest yet!

I’m already on the board, but hit it again yesterday on my way home from Steamboat. I had to pull it back a bit right after I took this picture. It’s always a little bumpy as I descend just east of Long’s Peak. I usually make the westbound trip at 12,500 or 14,500 and then back to the east at 13,500.

I’ve owned my RV-3 for 5 years now and still grin from ear to ear each time I fly it. It has no problem getting to the high teens if I need it. I also love my Mountain High O2D2 oxygen system I use the smallest bottle in the 3 and use the 10k setting to have the O2 start flowing above 10k. I can get 4-5 85 minute round trips out of the little 4.0 cubic foot bottle before it needs a refill.
