Smoke oil pump reseal

Hello. I am helping a friend out, his smoke helper system pump was leaking. We were told that few people had good luck by resealing. Has anyone here done that ? If so could you give me few pointers? What did you use to seal it and what areas ? Thanks

Had the same issue because the gasket used is for fluids that are thicker than smoke oil such as fuel or water. I had mine replaced and before I had any smoke oil through it, I prosealed the flange. Yes you can’t take it apart anymore but it will seal. Had a buddy proseal after it started leaking and it didn’t work as good. YMMV so recommend cleaning as good as you can if you proseal. Hope that helps. Got the tip from the warbirds, they proseal every new pump they get, it’s a known issue.

I suspect it would seal well with ordinary Permatex UltraBlack, which is very oil resistant.

Being a DC pump, it will run in either direction, needing only a switch wired for polarity reversal, same as a flap motor. Install a solenoid valve at the firewall so the line to the injectors will only feed when the pump is running, in the forward direction. The system can be made self-filling by adding a tee fitting at the pump outlet, connecting the extra leg to a hydraulic hose quick-connect under the belly, and not powering the solenoid valve when the pup is reversed. Just couple a siphon hose to the quick-connect, shove the other end into the oil drum, flip the switch, and monitor the smoke tank for quantity.
