IO-540 intake lock washers 1/4" internal tooth lock washer?

Got a question for the brain trust:

The Lycoming washers are $1.75 a copy.

(I think these are the right ones)

A standard internal tooth cad plated washer from ACS is $0.03 a copy.

Is there a difference I am unaware of or is the only difference cost because of the Lycoming name being attached?

I am replacing the intake rubber tube and want to replace the washers when I disassemble.

The difference is $1.72. Seriously, it is a lock washer. Not a lot special going on there. I just use hardware store star washers. I would trust the ACS stuff if you feel the need for aviation grade. I have had no issues with zinc coated washers. Don't seem to corrode any faster than cad plated washers. Absolutely no way I would spend $1.75 for a star washer. With bolts and nuts I use Mil spec stuff, even traditional washers. IMHO, there is not much special about a star washer, especially in a low torque application like this.

Agreed about the star washers, just wasn't sure there wasn't something I didn't know as I am humbled daily.

For anyone wanting to replace their intake gaskets and tubes on their IO-540 (or 360), these are the parts required. (2) washers, (1) gasket, and (1) tube per cylinder.

Vic wrote a recent article about the intake gaskets getting crusty after being in service for a decade and mine indeed were crusty.

I would argue with your bill of material for "parts required". The true solution is the SDS "no leak" O ring conversion kit.

Quit screwing around with tractor parts and step into the modern age once and for all.
