Finished up all my terminations to the ground block on the firewall:

img_2520-1024x768.jpg

Decided there wasn't much to do at this point but try firing everything up. After QAing all the connectors and getting everything in place, I...discovered that my bench power supply is apparently a pile of [REDACTED]. Maintains a nice 13.8V with no load, but with a load it's voltage drops galore.

I was at least able to power up the HDX displays individually, but even then the display would flicker sporadically from the voltage drops. Going to try adding a battery in parallel tomorrow, and then go shopping for a better supply. I'm feeling very deprived of a panel full of shiny goodness right now.

Not too much …

Flew about ten miles down the way to meet up with a friend. Then flew about 25 miles away for lunch, and then did it in reverse.

Had a great time though.

Flew to KIAD

Flew into Dulles to volunteer at the Air and Space Museum Innovations in Flight Family Day.

(If anyone knows why images are all upside down, I’d love to know how to fix them)

My guess

Flew into Dulles to volunteer at the Air and Space Museum Innovations in Flight Family Day.

(If anyone knows why images are all upside down, I’d love to know how to fix them)

Just my guess on the images. The iphone has a normal format sideways with the lens up. When the pictures are transferred from the iphone directly to the VAF website, the iphone strips out the megadata (whatever that is) and the orientation is lost, so it defaults to the normal format. When pictures are transferred from a computer to VAF, the mega data is still attached and doesnt get stripped out, so the orientation is correct. The easiest way to fix is to open VAF on your computer, copy the images to the desktop, fix the orientation and then repost from computer to VAF. (I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so i think this is correct.)

If I want to transfer my pictures directly from Iphone to VAF, i make sure to hold my iphone sideways with lens up; it has worked so far.

You may also have to crop them a bit to save the new orientation before posting here.

Stripping Metadata

Stripping the data also removes all those interesting tid bits like time, date, where the photo was taken, camera used, mother's maiden name, your gender ....

Well, except the last two.

Shooters, be alert!

Long X/C

First time a long run like this, with some flight over the Smoky Mountains and deal with weather next day on the way back.
5 Stars for the controllers. They are a big help. Was on VFR flight following the entire flight and they really look at you to keep you safe.

A short flight over to Bridgeport for fuel Saturday morning before the heat index climbed to 106. On the way I thought I'd load up the RNAV 18 and let the A/P do some of the work since it was a nice day. Too many sims....I remember when I thought loading an approach was hard. Now *when* do I press the APPR button?!?!

A Stearman from our field was at the pump. Those things sure are neat looking.

Did a bunch of T&G's last night...speed control, spot landing mostly. It was good.

Having flown a lot less in the past year, some of my flying was getting sloppy. Vic and I were talking at the FBO at KPNS a month or two ago. At the time I was really disgusted with my radio performance after an inbound on a busy day with multiple handoffs. Just hadn't been flying much in the stay-at-home year. Use it or lose it. I suspect I'm not alone.

Flew into Dulles to volunteer at the Air and Space Museum Innovations in Flight Family Day.

First photo is amazing. I lived in the area back in the 70's, when Dulles was waaaaay out in the sticks, all by itself, and the access highway was the loneliest road in the DC region...

Managed to trigger two new huge RV grins :)

Her smile made my day!

And "Mikey" is back at the ceiling, sleeping well until the next mission *G*

Took the RV6 for a ride around Northern Arizona. We've had an excellent summer monsoon season, with record rainfall. Haven't seen it this green for several years. It's a great time to visit Arizona.

Setting up my aluminum Magic Legs from Sky Designs. They’ve already answered one after hours Friday night call. Super nice folks!

Bernie was out there showing everyone at the fly-in what a takeoff climb in an RV looks like - impressive! It was a beautiful day! And 17 out of 63 visiting aircraft were RVs.

I was able to fly from KEUL Caldwell ID to KTEW Mason Jewett MI on Sat and Sunday with my friend Chuck. Total flight time was about 11hours. We hit 176 knots ground speed with wind which gets me just over 200 mph! Pretty bumpy over the Rocky Mountains and through Wyoming. Smooth from KLXN to my home field. It was a great experience.

A short flight over to Bridgeport for fuel Saturday morning before the heat index climbed to 106.

Sorry I missed you. I went out for some partial panel, a really bad unpublished hold, and the RNAV to 'cheap gas' ($3.90 is cheap these days)

Just flew around in the smoke. You know, usual stuff this time of year.

like flyvans.com (aka Bernie) with Mikey, and rv8ch (aka Mickey) with Hello, world!, and quite a few others, took part in our annual fly-in.
Friendship was great, the food excellent, perfectly organised, thanks guys

A chilled glass of rose wine in hand, mesmerising alphorn players, amidst the mountains, and RVs (and others) in the background... can you ask more :D
