Anyone replaced the o-rings in the P5000 ??
Chasing a super-small oil leak. Have the o-rings, getting ready to change the oil.

I have that as well. I also had to replace o-rings.
You can go to the Saf-Air website where they list the required o-rings. They are “MS” numbers. There are two different sizes; MS28775-011 and MS28775-012. It takes two of the 011 and one of the 012. I ordered mine from Spruce.

Yes! I replaced the top O-ring on a brand new one before I ever installed it on my new engine. Upon inspecting the O-ring (because I had heard somewhere about possible leaks), I noticed a not-so-small notch/nick in outer portion of the o ring. Had an assortment on hand, so found one that fit well.

Caveat, my engine is full of break-in oil and I've confirmed oil pressure through cranking the prop, but it hasn't actually run yet. No observable leaks.

Hope this helps!

Do yourself a favor and get a ball valve type and you won’t touch it again. No leaks.

The EZ-Drain or similar/equivalent Fumoto both work great.

I've used the SAF-AIR valves sold by ACS, and find them to leak after a couple of years. The EZ-Drains are on all my cars/trucks(for years) and Fumoto is on my plane. No leaks.

---Do yourself even more of a favor and get rid of the ball valve and replace it with the A.S.A super magnetic drain plug! https://antisplataero.com/products/magnetic-super-plug

No more leaks, and you will vastly extend your engines usable life. As a fringe benefit, at each oil change you will get a
visual display of how your engine is doing as compared to the previous interval. Very inexpensive insurance, and one of
the best things you can do for your engine. Thanks, Allan--:D

Fairly simple process

Removed the valve and dis-assembled it. No tools required. O-rings available at ACS. All for less than $4.
From top to bottom:
Metal retaining ring
-11 o-ring
-11 o-ring
-12 o-ring
Metal washer
Spring
Copper crush washer 900-13
Valve body
Plunger/stopper

Not sure this was leaking but thought I’d change the o-rings with this oil change just as a possible EZ fix.
If it develops a leak or the faint streaks continue I’ll consider the valve Brian suggested.
Alan, I had one of your magnetic drain plugs. Early on in my engines life. Never had any metal bits on it and my oil analysis has also been good so opted for the quick drain a few hundred hours ago.
Thanx all for the info. Hope this helps anyone else thinking about changing these o-rings.

I’ve rebuilt my safe air valve twice and it still leaks. Had one replaced by the company and it still leaks. I’ll be swapping to the ball valve next oil change.

If somebody using a Fumoto valve on a IO540 would post up a particular model number, it would help.

Just curious - do you have any data you care to share with us to support this claim?

As to the thread, I have a Saf-Air valve on my RV-7A and it has been problem free for 300+ hours. Had to replace one Fumoto valve on my Tundra due to leaks. It’s been leak free ever since and the Fumotos on my other vehicles have all been fine.

Quick Drain valve

In my very limited lycoming experience, a narrow deck o-320 and a my buddy's RV-10, both required the 1/2" NATIONAL PIPE THREAD( NPT), so you need a Fumoto
1/2-14 NPT T202NS 15mm (19/32") 3/4" OD 531 in lbs(44ft lbs)
1/2-14 NPT T202N 25mm (63/64") 3/4" OD

I also have Fumoto's on all my vehicles, past and present.

I would like to install a Fumoto ball valve on my Lycoming IO-360. I want to verify the thread is 1/2"-20 UNF before ordering. This is the valve I'm considering. I like it has a longer nipple to attach a drain hose.

https://www.fumotousa.com/all-products/f101n.html

The thread size you’re looking for is 1/2-14 NPT.

I just replaced my SafAir valve with the Fumoto valve on my Mattituck IO360. The SafeAir never leaked after 480 hours but I like the safety of the latching lever on the Fumoto valve as opposed to a spring holding the valve closed.

The SafeAir valve is the P5000 and the Fumoto valve you’re looking for is the T202 or T202NS depending on whether you want the drain nipple or not.

You can find more discussion about the valves here:

I use a 2" length of Neoprene hose with a 1/8 pipe plug on the bottom,
No more seep! I just pull it off, and open the drain for the oil change.

Great idea Gary. No drips yet but I may incorporate that if I ever need to.
