Well Known Member
We have had as great few months with th plane, covering the midwest to visit family and friends. The hours were adding up and somewhere over the Mississippi today, the old girl rolled over 2650 hrs, time to drop the oil and continue the longitudinal study.....

The Setup:
- RV-9A/O-320/Carb/Dual EI/Hartzell/Phillips XC 20W-50
- Lots of Mogas, Lots of LOP

1.25 qts of oil were `added over the 50 hours - .75qt in the last 15 hours. This is a common pattern for this engine.

The Compressions readings (warm) were all in range at 72/78/76/78.

Oil sump screen had a few chunks of crushable carbon, and the K&P filter had carbon crumblies in it. magnet had some ferrous dust on it.

Lower spark plugs were tan-ish in color and dry.

Valve pics below - The exhaust pics are not great - let's just blame the photographer and move on.......

Annual speed check numbers coming soon.........

Pretty amazing, Pete. I'm trying to do the same as you, but sometimes have to run 100LL. Do you use camguard?

Just Gas and Oil

Hi Mickey,

No Camguard, but I am able am lucky enough to be able to fly a few times a week - I think that really helps.

Agreed!

I think this will be really good for lower compression engines! I just worry about the price.

That sure keeps those valves clean looking.
One thing I am looking forward to in the new aviation fuel is the elimination of lead deposits on valves and spark plugs.

Well, we have a pretty good idea of what your amazing craft looks like on the INside. How about sharing what it looks like on the OUTside? I'm a visual learner.....:p
