Note that there are different strengths - I found that the 20N struts (about 5 lbs) was good for my door.
Mickey, do you recall the length? I'm looking at them on ebay and they come in different lengths.

Just go to Lowe's or Home Depot and for about $2.00 you can get a single-pivot hinge that will work fine. They're about 8 or 9 inches per side of the hinge. I've used one for 16 years. Make sure you buy the left hand opening version. Simple installation. Sorry I don't have a photo on hand. Chris
I'm new to the forum so this may be an old topic. Has anyone come up with a prop rod or gas strut modification to hold the RV-8 baggage door open?

I've got the McMaster strut, and am about to install it. It's supposed to keep the door open and closed, right? The strut as delivered is extended about 6 inches, and I can compress it fully contracted, but it sure doesn't hold there. It's pushing the whole time to extend. I can't seem to extend it beyond where it is, so how will it hold the door closed if it's always pushing to extend?
Is the bottom/lower end of the strut screwed into nut plates or did you use self locking nuts?I used McMaster Carr as well!
