Noodle pads for tail pieces

BruceW

Well Known Member
Building tail pieces with clecos on both sides.
Never liked bottom side riding the clecos onto the bench.

Ta da.
Large pool noodle with trim to create a small flat side.
Lifts the work off so not resting on the clecos.
Two noodles for VS works fine. Have not tried on other tail pieces yet.

(I use the flattened noodles for loading multiple SUP boards on my car.
Re-purposed for the RV build)

Yes, rubber boot for the clecos. Found the idea in another thread that I cant find. Buy the McMaster-Carr item below and punch your own hole to slip on the clecos. I did this while waiting for the tail kit to arrive.
Would probably help if I was doing polished again (but not doing that).
Dont see a big difference in marring of the skin, with or without the boot.
Not sure if I would do it again.

Great idea. Also, nice primer job. Which primer did you use and did you prime the whole inner skin or just the faying surfaces?

Slit the noodles lengthwise and slide them over trailing edges for some cheap body protection, especially from corners....

Spar doubler.

Wondering if the spar doubler for the outboard hinge is on the forward side of the spar? Did that come as part of the kit? Per SB00036 REV 3 which I believe includes the -14. Great time to install that part!
