Fuel tank access plate

The supplied cork gasket seems like a future leak waiting to happen. Searched forums and found many have opted to proseal in lieu of the cork gasket.

That being said I have a question about the instructions. From the plans “ Rivet the T-407 and the platenuts in place. The gasket under the T-708 cover plate will seal these rivets, so they do not have to be set with tank sealant.”

If you omit the cork gasket should you set these rivets with proseal, or should you proceed verbatim the instructions and consider the proseal used in lieu of the cork to be the gasket?

The proseal and the cover plate will seal them.

You can use pro seal on the T-407 reinforcement ring, but there’s no need. The whole structure is sealed by pro seal between the T-708 and the T-703 root rib. Don’t use the cork gasket, just use pro seal. You also need to pro seal the heads of the screws when you put the access plate on for the final time.

There’s a really good YouTube video from vans if you haven’t seen it already.
