Sky-tec Starter Solenoid

Do the XLT And LS starters use the same solenoid (the solenoid mounted on the starter)? Having issues and not sure the starter gear is fully engaging the flywheel ring gear.

Thanks for any input,

Jeff

Jeff,

I had an issue as well. My advice is to call SkyTec. Thier customer support is outstanding. I had a replacement starter in a few days. Thank you, Alan!

fysa, Lycoming has a stock of SkyTec starters. When they test your engine in the run cell, they use a different system to start the engine. Your starter is installed for shipment and most likely has never been used.

Yes - see https://www.amazon.com/Ford-PMGR-Starters-F3VU-11390-AA-F4DU-11390-AA/dp/B06XXQC2ZQ for an example -- you can buy them at almost any car parts store -- search up 2005 Ford Crown Victoria - Starter Solenoid...

What kind of issues are you experiencing -- Slow Cranking? No cranking? The "Ding" sound when the pinion gear smacks into the ring gear? The "Click" of death? Smoke? Warts? Pestilence? Dead Frogs? :)

+1

Thanks to other VAF posts, I recently resolved my starter problem this way. Mine was just doing the dreaded "click" intermittently, and the Crown Vic solenoid solved it.

But do also check your wiring including the crimps on all the terminals. I previously had a problem that turned out to be a bad crimp on the terminal on the wire that activates the solenoid.
