Has this happened to others?

While drilling a #30 rivet hole in the F-601B Firewall Stiffener and the F-719B Angle Clip on my -7a forward fuselage, I got a little careless and let the drill bit slip  and cut about 1/3 of the way thru the stiffener. This second "almost-a-hole" is quite close to the original hole that goes thru both the stiffener and clip. Here's a pic of the problem.

And a even closer view (sorry for the blurriness)

So, after saying a few choice words, I referred to the Aircraft Inspection, Repair and Alterations (AC-43.13) manual. It looks like I can rivet a backer plate over the problem area on the stringer and use the existing hole in the stringer and clip as guide to drill a rivet hole in the backer plate. Sounds simple enough. I still have the other side to do, but I would like to know what others have done to correct issues like this.

Thanks,
