….I have a fast leak on the RV’s right tire, so I took the RV-15 wannabe (cub) up for .9 with the doors and windows open. In the shade. Will bet 101 today.

Dreams of doing this in a -15….. ;^). Gonna be awesome.

I completed the first project in my weight reduction / CG improvement / IFR upgrade remodel.

Out with the old:

Since I was doing a vacuum system delete as part of my IFR upgrade, the recent post on the Monkworkz vacuum pump pad mounted generator put me into full research mode. This included reading Paul's article in KitPlanes. I was sold, and I decided to make it my primary power generation device. Bill has been very responsive about his product and is great to work with. I highly recommend him as a vendor.

I may add a second full sized battery to my design later (aft mounted, further helping my CG issues). But I still need to put all this:

Into the hidden recesses of the panel, etc.

Glad the cool front came through last night, allows for longer days at the hangar!

Turned over the clock

Made a breakfast run to KCMA this morning but the restaurant was closed with a sewer stoppage, so we flew over to Santa Paula for food. On the way home we watched as the Hobbs turned over the first 1000 hours.

Waited for cooler temps in the eve to fly home after a couple days at the lake, couple stray thunderstorms made for great scenery with the setting sun.

Flew 88 year-old Dad around Catalina for Father's Day. A rare June day with no stratus so took advantage.

Hung the engine. Decided to break the prop out of its crate too and attach it briefly just to make the photo op that much more fun. FWF fun is about to begin...

Smithsonian Bound

Spent Saturday at the Smithsonian at Dulles, and had the RV10 on static display. Always a fun event.

Also had Potomac Approach ask me to slow down on downwind. With the wind pretty sporty I was doing 175 across the ground. https://youtu.be/aiUd4v6nsAA

I wanted to get to the Boone Iowa RV gathering but it was the same weekend as the Ray Fagen Memorial Warbirds show in Granite Falls Minnesota. That was a spectacular event, and included the Tora Tora Tora show. Fagen Fighters WWII museum there has an astonishing inventory of flying WWII fighter aircraft, and a lot more, but a few other organizations brought their fighters as well. The aerial dogfighting was fantastic, as was the Pearl Harbor reenactment. I flew down there to Minnesota corn country and shuttled over to the Granite Falls airport. I've been to their museum a few times...it is by far the most spectacular WWII aviation museum I've ever seen, and I'm actually a member of the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. They have a couple of P51's, a P38, a P40, Hellcat, Wildcat, a B25, a P38, and a bunch of other WWII airplanes. And they all fly regularly. They even just acquired a Mitsubishi Zero...one of five flying Zeros in the world.

I simply don't have the ability to describe this museum and especially this airshow in any way that would do it justice. There's no adequate way to describe the sight and sound of two P51 Mustangs making a 50-foot low pass in formation down the runway at 400 knots. I you're interested here are some links:

Changed the leaky front mainseal on my crank. On the advice of 3 A&Ps I know, I used Indian Head Shellac instead of the Dow Corning stuff Lycoming recommends. No leaks on the initial test run...

I also installed a Uavionix AV-30 to cover for the dead AHRS in my AFS 4500 until I can get a new panel in the plane. Everything is backordered. Gotta love all this supply chain BS....

Second Fly In

I've been so busy making videos I almost forgot to share this. Father's Day was a good one for me; got up early and was airborne at sunrise to attend the EAA Chapter 113 Father's Day pancake breakfast at 1D2. I've waited to attend this one in an airplane for years.
AM-JKLUqa7HZ_lc1QokqTUeqPUg4puTCrTi8ek9LPaOVOI6XjjcBJsruGXpnZRssH2oNU07QRIZkCjlQi8RNKlHQhA_VBpNYQSP4XgUDYgD2t3b_SeRjHUdJhE75XMgd3UidAfWwM7K5nL_qdT0VTp-W6Zvf=w648-h360

Did more Phase 1 flying via RNP and 6D6 before heading back to PTK. As I was getting ready to head home, Terry Kohler taxiied up, shut down, opened his canopy and yelled "Hop in!" We did a quick practice approach to 57D and returned.

Sunday was a great day to fly in Michigan, and we took advantage of it!
