Base Clear Aluminum Prop

Well Known Member
Has anyone tried to base-coat clear-coat an aluminum prop? I couldn't be happier with my prop performance and I really don't need a new one but, I have to say I look at all the Cato type props and I get a little jealous of the fancy shiny paint on them. I realize that to be "certified" it needs to be gray or black with the white stripes but that's boring in my opinion

I found out the hard way that automotive single stage polyurethanes tend to peel away from any stone chips on a prop. Looked great for about two hours of operation. I would not use a BC/CC on the leading edges.
The guy in the Sensenich booth said they use Polane when I asked after my failed experiment.
