What did you do with your RV this weekend? (2/26/22 - 2/27/22)

CYBW to KRHV

Was a beautiful day the entire trip…one does not alway get this lucky on a long cross country! Photos over the summit of Rockies and the volcano lands and lava flows ~70-80NM east of Redding, CA where the light dusting of snow really mad things pop.

Bag test

No flying this WE, lots of snow/wind and/or too cold/wind...
My GF had an eye on a fancy leather travel bag.
Had to trial fit it in the 8.
Perfect!!! and it also goes in the front end !!
GF is happy, so I'm happy too.
I'm impressed as she is now shopping stuff that relates to the RV...

Went to the airport just to replace my EarthX battery. I needed to get back home for other projects but it would be a shame to waste a day without a breath of wind in Kansas.
I left things firewalled to get the temps up faster and sliced through the buttery smooth air for ten minutes, greased the landing and refreshed my grin.

Logistics and Assembly

Relocated the RV-6 to a friend's hangar so I could do a bit of assembly on the -10. Set the right wing (the one that has a big bundle of Garmin wiring) upside down on a couple of sawhorses adjacent to the airplane so I can terminate all of the wires while standing over the work, rather than on a creeper under the attached wing.

Nice Darin. I really miss the mountains and always enjoy seeing your pictures!

My wife and I flew the plane back from Evoke Aviation in Gadsden, AL. Jonathan McCormick and his team did a fantastic job.

Finished the metal prep of the forward fuselage parts. Monster priming session coming up soon. Also, the Hartzell prop arrived. Engine coming this week. Needless to say they'll hang out in the packaging for a while.

Finally got some weekend flying in. Just a quick run down to the ocean along the coast from Del Mar to La Jolla and back to Ramona.

A bit of flying yesterday, first time in 4 weeks. Had to inflate my left main before the flight (had to do it last flight too). Did a little more than an hour, practice IFR hold and approaches. When I brought it back to the hangar, the left main was noticeably lower, my slow leak was not so slow anymore.

Today I brought my son out to the airport and we changed the tube (it was already completely flat). I'm a little hobbled with a shoulder issue so it was good to have someone to help. Anything requiring removal of a wheel is one of my least favorite jobs.

I've had plenty of problems with leaky tubes, is the huge premium for the Michelin Air stop tubes worth it? How are the new Aero Classic Leak guard tubes? I'm not going to change a good tube out but I like to have a spare or two and I'm out of spares for my mains.

Lake Tahoe West Side

Took a quick detour to fly West and do a tour of Lake Tahoe after some recent snowfall. I love my RV!

Yes, based on my experience. I have had mine on for a few years, some while building, and the last 18 months flying with over 300 landings, and I have never had to add air. I have them set at ~45psi (3.1bar), which is perhaps more than some use, but works great for me.

Flight over Austin TX

Took an hour flight after replacing my transponder. Took this pic at 6,500ft over the new Tesla plant being built on east side of Austin, TX. Doesn't look that big in perspective to the wing of the plane, but compare it to the size of the cars on the ground and it's size becomes more apparent.

Well, it's Monday, but every day is the weekend for the newly retired...

Ms. Patti and I met Roy for lunch in Hamilton AL. Cheap fuel, and a truly excellent $100 grilled cheese sandwich.

Kidding, sort of. The Mill House is a great fly 'n eat destination, link below. The Hamilton FBO has a ratty Tahoe to lend, and it's only a mile or two from the airport.

Sure couldn't complain about the weather today!

Shoot, I was just there 2 weeks ago. Nothing like cheap fuel to attract pilots.

Hey, I recognize that fellow in the red hoodie! Now where might I have seen him before? Kidding of course. What a great preview of our new Tennessee flying life. So many friends to visit and fun places to explore.
