This weekend's installment.....

Flew Saturday morning for .3 in 64*F weather (a VERY welcome change in N.TX). Perfectly calm and comfortable for the first time in a loooooong time in these parts.

Disked the weeds on the runway so hopefully the dirt guy can finish the last of the runway dirt work and I can focus on planting grass.

Picked up Brian in Atlanta to adventure and burn hours toward the ATP. Flew up the east coast and stopped at Block Island, the Hudson Corridor, Boston, Prince Edward Island, Bathurst, Kuujjuaq, and Iqaluit before returning home through Albany. 42 hours and 442.88 gallons through the IO-540.

Flew myself and the love of my life to KAVP (Scranton) to hang out with her family for the day and then flew back. Great time, great flights out and back, great people.

HOLY COW Tim! That's some trip!!! Had no idea where Kuujjuag or Iqaluit were, so searched them on my map. Wow! I'm impressed. How many days did it take you?

Round robin

Haskell Two Dogs (2K9) for coffee and doughnuts, Claremore for fly-in and lunch, Pogue for cheap gas (its all relative :)), bumped into and visited with friends at each location. One visual and two VNAV approaches, finally begining to get the hang of the GNX375/Aera 760/TruTrak Gemini combo after studying many Garmin training videos on YouTube. It was good to find out that Garmins concept of operation and GUI are pretty consistent across their product line so GTN and 650/750 videos were useful.

Instrument rating in my future :)
Figs

Night instrument practice. Perfect weather for it with 900 ovc ceilings.

O88, Rio Vista airport day

Went to a local airport day fly-in at Rio Vista, CA (O88). Kind of the opposite end of the spectrum from Oshkosh, but that was sort of the point yesterday. Nice flight, didn't take me two days to get there, breakfast, etc. What's not to like?

N77XV became an airplane today

After 12+ years it finally became a real airplane today. Thanks Mel Asberry and all the other that help make this dream come true. Now to the hard work of getting the 40 hours flown off.

Flew as part of a 25 ship to commemorate Orscheln Farm & Home Store’s 25th Fall Party. Outstanding job by Sam “Bull” Leslie on the Herculean effort to get it all coordinated and to “Top Gun” Flight lead Kent “Yobo” Yohe for leading this heard of cats. The Beechnutz from Kansas City did a great job flying the Bonanzas and the RVs were KC Flight from Kansas City, Smoke On Aviation from Kentucky and Bulldog Flight from Arkansas.

We would be amiss if we didn’t also send out a big thank you to Jennifer and all the folks at Orscheln for inviting us, sponsoring us and always making us feel like part of the family.

Some notable quotes heard over the weekend:

“Don’t follow that heading thingy”, “Coming right (all turns were left)”, “Pull out of the formation here- its OK, Oly will hold your hand”, and this one by the headliner show act Country Star Walker Hayes, “This is about the coolest party I’ve been to, ain’t never been to a party with an air show”.

What a great way to spend the weekend with a bunch of friends!
