rod-end bearings jam nut thread locker

ohlone

I'm New Here
Why is it that, given the importance of keeping jam nuts tight on rod-end bearings, I've never seen thread locker used to keep the jam nuts from backing out ? I've also never seen nylon insert nuts used either.

Thanks.

John

I would think thread locker would be ok if the rod end bearing was in it's final adjusted position.

Nylocks would be problematic as the nut would have to be installed backwards (upside down?). Ever try to put a nylock on a bolt backwards?

The problem is not jam nuts coming loose. It that the jam nuts were never tightened when assembled. If properly tightened the jam nuts rairly loosen.

Thanks for the replies. Makes sense regarding the majority of the dialog around jam nuts being loose. That said, never coming loose seems to be the only option. In other words, rarely is still cause for concern.
