Identify Recognition/Landing Lights

Roberson35

I'm New Here
Gents:

Can anyone help me identify these Lights? I’m hoping to find a replacement bulb for one which has gone out. They are installed in the leading edges of both wings.

Any autoparts store or Wal-Mart will have that H3 bulb. My Mazda uses that same bulb. Do not touch it with your bare fingers when installing it. Any oils from your fingerprints will create a hot spot on the glass and the light will burn out quickly. Clean it with alcohol if you touch the bulb.

I replaced mine with LED bulbs even before first flight. H3 bulbs. I had trouble finding the LEDs in stores; got them on Amazon.

If you stick with the H3-sized LEDs, the ones with enough lumens make significant RFI and need toroid magnet choke clamps on the positive leads. 55W H3 halogens are poor lumens per amp and 100w are too much draw overall for some.

Small LED H3s have only a few 100 lumen throw.

You'll want enough length to loop through the chokes 3 times.

Edit to add, I would replace the beam holder with a plate and mount 2 spots and a taxi in each, depending on if tail or nosewheel and amount of lumens vs amps desired. No noise, easy kits. Paul's FlyLEDs
