Thunderbolt Cylinder Fins

I don't know if Lycoming spells this out specifically, but my thunderbolt is pretty clean and I don't feel the need to floss between the fins. I ponied up for custom paint. Don't know if that got me any extra prep or not.

Here's a quick pic.

Hi,

Kyle has a thread regarding cylinder fin prep prior to installation of baffling (https://vansairforce.net/community/showthread.php?t=215258).

Does anyone know if this is handled at the factory by Lyc for Thunderbolt engines?

Cheers!
Mike

For what it is worth, the new lycoming cylinders on my -10 needed cleanup. Some of the gaps needed considerable work.

But I guess the point is: Take a look and clean the gaps up if you need to. If they are clean and full depth, there’s no need.

Thanks

Kyle,

I didn't want to hijack your thread, thus this one. I'm hoping that because of the custom nature - and additional cost - of the Thunderbolt, plus the paint, this would be part of the service Lyc would provide.

Thank you all, for your thoughts!

Cheers,
Mike
