So a local father son team with an RV14 they built just went through this.
They just had a IFR check ride with a GTN625 in their plane and were checked out by the DPE using it as the basis of approaches necessary.
He signed them off, but the FAA came back and required a VOR/ils ground based approach as required and they had to rent a 172 to complete this.
