Andi and I flew down to tailgate at the Iowa State game on Saturday and flipped 2600 on the hobbs.

Andi held up her responsibilities..... and napped

ISU won! and we headed home. After landing back at KANE - out came the oil and in went the borescope.

The filter had the usual carbon chunks and film of ferrous dust on the internal magnet. The finger screen had a few crumblies of carbon. I added a bit over 1 qt over the 50 hours, all of it in the last 15 hours.

Compressions were 76/77/78/77. #2 was stubborn cold(60ish) but tested great after a quick run up. She's old and a bit tired, like me.

I've had a few people asking if running to(and past) 2600 hrs is smart. I talked to the engine manufacturer at OSH. I told the engineer what I do every 50 hours and he told me the engine would start talking thru compressions, oil consumption, or the scope pics. He could not officially endorse it, but he felt what I was doing was reasonable.

Engine is a carbed O-320, Hartzell, dual EI, I run mostly 91 mogas, Phillips 20w-50 oil, and run LOP all but initial climb.

Here are the scope pics - I did not realize until l got home that I had film of oil on the lens, so they are not that sharp. Mea Culpa......

Nice Pete. Get every hour you can out of that engine. Are you going to rebuild it yourself when needed or other plans? I always wanted to try and build one but Im not confident enough to actually do it! I hope you get another 500 hours at least!!

I don't know Rocky. I'd need the help of a really smart person!

Looks great, Pete! One question - the local and zulu times - are those reversed? Perhaps I have not yet had enough coffee...

Mickey - some idiot forgot to set the clock after the battery was disconnected..... I'll have a talk with him.

Hi Jim,

Just run the 20W-50 straight up. Seems to work well as is. I try to fly 2-3x per week even if it is just for my 30 min loop of the rivers here in the cities. I think that helps.

Pete, do you use an additive with Phillips oil when using Swift fuel?
