Vertical Induction Sump to Horizontal Induction Sump

Suprise, you new engine (XIO-360-M1B) comes with a forward horizontal induction oil sump.

We did a test fit today, and can see that our current cowl with the external scoop on the lower cowl, does not really fit any longer.

We have two options

Option 1: Get the new "horizontal induction" cowl, new throttle, mixture, and prop cables. Re-route the engine control cables through the firewall. Paint the new cowl to match in paint.

Option 2: Take the "vertical induction sump" of our old motor with the old induction tubes and put on the new motor.

Has anyone done this retrofit?

Anything else to look out for?

What increases in performance will be see with the horizontal induction vs the vertical induction?

After talking with Van's, here is what they said we will need:

1. $1,650 -- 7cowlkit-360
2. $ 290 -- Baffle Kit BAF-360
3. $1,195 -- New Exhaust
4. $ 103 -- Throttle Mixture Kit

Then paint the new cowl in an attempt to match our current paint scheme.

Ouch!

The good news is the new top cowl appears to be much easier to get on and off.

The lack of a scoop should result is slightly improved performance.

Converting it

Oh, and if you want to stick with your old sump, I just did the reverse on my motor. It's pretty easy (at least it was for me, and all new parts).
