Prep

Check Vans website for Service Bulletins
Check for Airworthiness Directive for Lycoming EXP IO-390-A3B6
Check emagair.com for service notes on Emag’s
Verify Registration / Airworthiness / Ops Limit / Weight & Bal
Verify Data Plate

Prop
Remove spinner and check for cracks
Check Hub for cracks
Check Blades for nicks and cracks
Inspect Prop bolts and safety wire
Grease Prop hub (no more than 4 pumps of Aeroshell 5)

Engine
Run engine to warm up
Remove Cowls
Drain Oil / Remove Filter (oil sample for analysis)
Remove top spark plugs
Perform Cylinder compression test. #1 ____ /80 #2 ____ /80 #3 ____ /80 #4 ____ /80
Clean oil screen w/ new gasket (finger tight then 135 deg)(seem faces sump)
Refill oil
Remove bottom spark plugs
Borescope cylinders for condition
Install new spark plugs and gasket (flat side facing plug)(Denso IKH27 5347) gapped to .030-.035 (torque plug to 18ft/lbs…not adapter)
Remove E-mags and examine shaft and drive gear condition
Examine E-mag control plug wires and retorque to 4-5 in/lbs
Reinstall E-mags with new star washer (17ft/lbs or 204 in/lbs)
Check ohm reading of ignition leads (300-500 ohms)
Reset E-mag timing (5 deg after TDC or 2.1 teeth)
Install new oil filter (18 ft/lbs)
Remove clean and flow test fuel injectors
Retorque exhaust mounting nuts to 180-200 in/lbs
Retorque exhaust flange attach bolts to 140-180 in/lbs
Pressurize exhaust pipe from exhaust and check for leaks with soapy water
Lubricate exhaust joints with mouse milk
Check scat tubing for wear
Check baffle condition for cracks/ wear
Retorque rocker box cover screws to 35 in/lbs
Retorque battery terminals to 35 in/lbs
Remove and clean air filter
Inspect air snorkel
Check / reset function of Alt air control
Check engine starter B+ terminal (60 in/lbs)
Check Alternator output nut (50 in/lbs)
Check alternator belt condition and tension
Remove oil cooler duct and check butterfly operation
Check oil cooler for signs of leakage or damage
Fill Brake fluid reservoir
Check all fuel and oil lines condition
Check engine mount for signs of cracks
Check gear attachments bolts (160-190 in/lbs)
Check throttle / mixture / prop cable for full range of motion
Perform engine run then check for leaks
Re-cowl engine

Landing Gear
Raise Tail and check condition and pin operation
Remove and clean tailwheel
Regrease and reinstall tailwheel
Remove main wheel fairings
Remove wheels and check condition / pressure (65 psi)
Inspect brakes (1mm min.) and rotors (2.8mm min.)
Retorque axel bolts (95 in/lbs)
Grease then install wheels (nut 12 ft/lbs)
Install cotter pin
Install safety wire on inside wheel
Check ankle bolt for correct torque (160-190 in/lbs)

Cabin
Remove Seats, Armrest, all interior panels
Inspect fuel selector valve
Inspect and clean fuel filter then reinstall
Inspect fuel lines
Inspect and lubricate stick bases
In Tunnel- lube rod ends and check jam nuts
Inspect all wire bundles for security and condition
Inspect fire extinguisher
Inspect Seat Belts
Inspect and lubricate Flap motor and torque tube
Check ELT operation (1st 5 minutes after hour)
Inspect rudder pedals and operation
Inspect brake master cylinders for condition and leaks
Inspect parking brake
Inspect all brake lines
Inspect cabin heat controls operation

Wings and Tail
Operational test of NAV/Strobes and Taxi/Landing lights
Remove all inspection plates, wing tips
Remove aft cabin bulkhead
Inspect ELT condition and battery experation
Check ELT Battery expiration ________
Inspect Rudder cables
Inspect Empennage wiring and static lines
Inspect wing cavity
Retorque Aileron attach bolts (28 in/lbs)
Verify aileron range of motion Left up_____ Right Up______(25-32) Left down_____ Right Down_____(15-17)
Inspect and lubricate Aileron bell cranks
Lubricate aileron rod ends and verify jam nuts tight
Inspect wing wiring for condition
Check full movement of flaps
Check and lubricate flap torque tube / Jam nut
Retorque wing attach bolts (big 66-83 ft/lbs 7/8”, small 13-16 ft/lbs 9/16”)
Inspect fuel quantity wires and fuel vent
Inspect Pitot tube and wiring
Check operation of aileron and elevator trim
Remove tail fairings and inspection plates
Check horizontal stab spar for cracking and jam nuts tight
Check tail control rods jam nuts tight
Lubricate elevator rod end bearings (5)
Check vertical stab spar for cracking and tight jam nuts
Lubricate rudder rod end bearings (3)
Verify elevator range of motion UP______ (25-30) DOWN _____(20-25)
Verify Rudder full range of motion

Update logbook (aircraft, engine and prop) with completed inspection
