Friday I gave RV-14 builder Brad C's daughter Victoria a pretend RV-15 ride. Victoria is taking her PPL checkride shortly - I sat in the back enjoying the scenery for a bit while she did turns around a point better than I ever could.

Met with some local FSDO guys at my hangar so they could look over my airplane and issue me a Repairman Certificate for it.

toured a coal mine

Bob, an aviation enthusiast, drove my RV from the right seat on an aerial tour.
Around a coal mine he has worked as a foreman for 36 years.

Had a lunch at Graig's golf club house after that. It's just across the runway at KCAG.

North Oregon Coast

Took a friend up for a nice coastal flight, I love the colors of the dune grass between KAST and my home base of 56S (Seaside OR) this time of year.
Also fixed my starter (new solenoid, Crown Vic special!)

Cowling before winter

Working on cowling.
Hope to be done before it snows in Los Angeles, with this weather changing so much, one never knows...

Flew up to Long Beach for a party with old friends and visited my family. Had to wait until almost 2pm on Sunday for the low overcast to burn off, then a quick flight back to Ramona. Drove home with a detour to go pick up our wine club shipment at a local winery and ran into another RV builder there.

Summer for us is officially over! I start back at Miramar College tonight with more A&P classes: Hydraulics, Airframe Electrical, Recips, and Lubrication. I should finish up my Airframe work this semester, and Powerplant in the Spring. My wife officially is back with students today teaching High School Engineering classes, including Aeronautical Engineering.

Had to wait a bit for the fog to clear this morning.

Saturday: Practice for an air display coming up at AusFly at Narromine (YNRM) in the middle of September.

(play that one with the sound turned up loud)

Sunday: IFR training. Bankstown 8 departure into Sydney's class C, track via Richmond AFB for a sector entry and hold for the RNP RWY 05 into Maitland (YMND) down to circling altitude for a touch and go on 23, then climb to MSA in the CTAF and track back to the RNP-W at Camden (YSCN), execute the missed approach from 1800', cancel IFR, return to Bankstown VFR. Hand-flown the entire way.

I'm really enjoying IFR. The Garmin G3X Touch system makes it feel like cheating though.

Hey Bruce: Was admiring your gorgeous plane in LGB Sunday morning and was hoping to say hi before I had to leave. Always interesting to see how everyone did their cowl/spinner, windshield fairing, wheel pants, empennage fairing ect. My ride photobombing yours.

I had another good cross country trip (not like I'm lacking there). My uncle and I departed west Texas and went up to Blackfoot Idaho to pick up his Rans S7 that was in a shop up there to bring back home. I burned 49 gallons on the way up in just over 6 hours. The first half was an IFR departure for IMC at home, then we made a short pit-stop in Farmington New Mexico then saddled up again VFR, and had to convert to an IFR flight plan halfway through the second leg for some IMC enroute.

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N16GN/history/20220821/1549Z/KFMN/U02

On the way back I hauled the mechanic that was working on his S7 over to Eagle Colorado to pick up a vehicle he was going to drive home,

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N16GN/history/20220822/1449Z/U02/KEGE

then I hopped over to Leadville CO to buy the "I landed at Leadville" shirt that is a rite of passage,

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N16GN/history/20220822/1727Z/KEGE/L%2039.41103%20-106.32962

where I grabbed an excellent burger at "Wild Bills" in town and then filled up with (relatively) cheap fuel, and departed for home. Density altitude at Leadville was 11,800 at takeoff, I burned at least 2000' of runway, possibly a little more, and climbed out initially at 600' per minute at 90 KIAS to 17,500' for the trip home.

1160 hours on the airplane now since first flight February 2016, and time for another oil change (3rd in 11 weeks!). This airplane has perfectly filled it's chosen mission, fast easy cross-country travel.
