Finally flying the RV-6 I purchased

Awesome with a few quirks yet. I bought it damaged from a hangar collapse...unfortunately, learned the hard way, the panel rework was MUCH more than I had anticipated. All I wanted to do was make it IFR comfortable for me. Can't figure out how to attach pics??

Great to hear you are finally flying dvalle. What did you have to do to make it
IFR capable?

IFR Capable

I'm an old timer pilot (CFII too), fly a lot but all certified planes. In the new panel, I struggle due to being old fashion:)...as I added a D10A but wanted the backup that I'm used to. So, kept AI, airspeed, Altimeter, VSI...so a challenge in the little RV6 panel. Added a Trimble 2000 Approach, cheap and VERY good GPS. REALLY struggling though, used to redundant everything. Two GPS's, 2 VOR's wG/S, two radios, now even to vac pumps. Having lost everything there is to lose in 40 years of flying, I insist...probably why I'm still here:).

dvalle,

My panel below is almost too crowded for me. I bought the plane this way.
I have a GRT Sport SX with SynVision and GPS that I can install. I think I just
need to reduce some of the clutter.

Interesting how things change....

In the '90's the ideal was to cram as many clock dials, switches, breakers, doodads, etc, into the RV panel as physically possible so it would look more "airline-ish".

Now that same panel is considered to be "cluttered". :)

Wonder what a fresh RV panel will look like twenty years from now....

Panel? .............. PANEL?? .............. We don't need no stinkin' Panel!! ;)

It will all be in the helmet visor, of course!

That is, unless there is a blue-tooth chip in our head that receives the data and transmits the images directly to the brain............ :p

(You listening, Dynon/MGL/GRT/Garmin?????) Maybe Elon Musk?

Sam, to me this panel is cluttered and not well thought out in regards to
placement. It is hard to see the MP and Tach in this panel. Then there is only
1 CHT/EGT guage. I love my steam guages, but this has a few too many and
this increases the workload. Again, just feel cluttered. :) Now I wouldn't mind
a nice touch panel or even better a HUD system. Now that might be the ticket.

Sorry for hijacking dvalle's thread.

Gene, I wasn't referring to your panel specifically, just making a general statement about how preferences change over time.

Enjoy your new plane!

It's not clutter that would bug me (and not sure I'd call this panel "cluttered" or not - it looks nice has a lot of functionality albeit not glass).

My own hangup is the Ray Allen stick grips are installed upside down :)

Panel

I can tell you from flying a LOT and a LOT of planes. I do NOT like touch panel for IFR....and I think the FAA is starting to see that fact. In my opinion, Garmin screwed up....Avidyne and King much better....oh and 430/530's. I think that's one of the reasons they are still holding their value.

Brad, I assume you are talking about the foam grips. I have seen them installed
both ways. I bought the airplane this way and I may change the foam out later
as I have another 205 that I am thinking of putting on the right side.

Sam, no offense taken. I came from a light sport with only an EFIS and a
couple of steam gauges. The beauty of these wonderful airplanes is that we
can and do configure them to our likes and desire. Making each to fit our
personalities.

As I stated above, I haven't flown from the left seat yet. That should change
in about 3 weeks.

.....This is most likely what will be! You forgot to mention the big bro hand that will pick your pocket with user fees every time you sit in your airplane!

gauges

get what you need and can rely on, and don't fold the wings and enjoy. all the while keepin weight in mind. I know nothing

[I swore I replied to this LONG ago...I think your panel is GREAT!
dvalle, thanks you did. It is a nice panel. Right now I need to replace the fuel
guage. It seems it is stuck on 3/4 full when powered up and the R tank is stuck
there all the time. Fortunately it will never fly more than 2 hours without being
refueled.

I am hoping to upgrade to the GRT Sport 8.4" EFIS and EIS here in the next
few months. But for now I will fly it as it is.
