RV 10 wing stand for transport

Weefle

Well Known Member
Just finished building the wing stand today and it got me thinking ahead to when I get to the paint stage.
I’m wondering if others have transported the bare and finished wings in the typical wing stand from their place of construction to the paint shop and then back.
If so, was there anything special you did to protect them or keep them strapped down?
I’m not building in a hangar so I’m trying to think ahead. Did you use an enclosed or open trailer?
I’m sure someone has done this before.

Thanks

Keith

I made multiple 30 mile trips up and down the interstate between the house and airport/paint shop with the wings secured to a cradle in an open trailer.

My wing cradle was such that the spars bolted to a horizontal member on the trailer and I used swimming pool noodles and cargo straps to make sure the wings never contacted each other (that was the noodles) and to make sure they and the cradle stayed on the trailer.
