Do I have room for 380x150x5 tires?

On my -4, I’m wanting to upgrade the tires, and wanted to see if the experts think I have the room. Looks like 1 1/4 inches at the center, and 1 inch at the corners. I believe the tires are 1 inch larger in diameter, so it should only be 1/2 inch closer to the pants.

Its a little close, but I think you will be OK. I have just about a 1/2" clearance at the top. You will have to open up the cut-out to maintain 5/8" gap to the tire.

Shimmy

I put the pressure recovery pants onto my RV 4 and gained 7 mph at altitude or 208 mph.

But also gained a shimmy on landing and sometimes on take off. Played with tire pressure from 20 psi to 49 psi, balanced my tires and everything from the wheel up to the mount is tight.

Pants are off again, will pull the gear leg fairing and see what's happening there. Other wise I'm about ready to go back to the stock sized tires.

Shimmy

Same tire size on my RV 3B occasional shimmy following your procedure let me know how yours turns out

Shimmy

I too have been down the 380-150 path. Bad shimmy on landing roll out ….unless I ran 20 lbs pressure, but then I was getting pinch flats and that was with quality, balanced tires, and solid oak gear leg stiffeners.
I finally gave up and went back to the stock 500-5 set-up. YMMV

wood or aluminum stiffener's?

I see on here that a couple of the guys have gone with a flat aluminum bar attached with adel clamps with some success. Not entirely sure if there is any advantage to it over the wooden stiffeners or if there has been an actual comparison between the wood and aluminum. Maybe someone could jump in?
