I cut a 3" or so circle out of the clear flap...

I cut a 3" or so circle out of the clear flap protection tape, stuck it in place over the hole and then opened up the center.

Late firing means the mixture is still burning as it is going out the exhaust, and thus higher egt readings.

The one in the OP is a generation before that.

The new one should fit with minimum work, I believe the wiring is the same.
