From watching two RV's with same scenarios. Prop needs needs a finer pitch so to get 2700-2750 RPM WOT at approx 7500 feet. If the prop is pitched correctly it will climb better and cruise faster....

My memory could be wrong but as I recall the early RV4 fuel pumps were modified. like the center piece was turned so the fitting would not interfere with the firewall.
