I agree with sending you're case in for OH even with low hours and good appearance; DIVCO will boil the case out and inspect all of your passages and clearances, along with performing any service...

BTW, the gear shafts have lock plates in lieu of safety wire, which is Lycoming PN 71646, alternate part AEL71646 (i.e. less expensive)....

You could do that, however aircraft paint stripper will do a great job with little effort. Might take a couple coats if the cylinders have been heavily painted, but works well with a pressure washer...
