If there is a crack, you've probably smeared over it while removing the paint mechanically. I doubt dye will find the crack, or it will be obscured by the sanding/grinding marks holding penetrant.

I wouldn't say MUST, but it is very handy. Fabricated angle brackets, stiffeners, etc. are a breeze on a band saw. for the price of a cheap one, I'd say you'd get your money's worth

More ribs done

Got a few more ribs riveted on today, but had to go to work before finishing. Dinged the spar with the bucking bar, made a cover out of cardboard to protect it.

The grade 8 ms bolts are zinc coated not cadmium like the 5's. besides cost I don't see a downside, but I'm not an expert lol
