Countersink this?

Building an RV-10.

Sec 29-14, step 9 says to “Machine countersink the holes that are common with the F-01069…Fwd Side Skins in the…F-01004K…Center Section Side Plates…”

Some of these holes appear to not get AN426 rivets at any time. Some will get AN470 rivets for wing root fairing supports. Some of the others are for the landing gear mount drill templates.

Would it be accurate to say that none of the highlighted holes in the F-01004K Center Section Side Plate get countersunk?

Related point: Figure 1 on 29-15 does indicate not to dimple the Wing Root Fairing holes, but seems to indicate the remaining highlighted holes do get dimpled (no exception noted).

This has changed since I built mine due to the landing gear weldments being redesigned.

Some of those holes get drilled out for the bolts that capture the weldment. They obviously don't get countersunk.

The rest (holding the F-01004T to the skin and F-1004K only - also used to cleco the template) I don't think it really matters. Those rivets aren't seen and could be AN426 or AN470s.

Looking at the drawings, it dosent specify the rivets, it just says rivet the doubler on, leaving the top 3 holes for the fairing open (not countersunk either)

Without knowing how thick the F-0100K is.... I assume its around 0.050 or more from memory but it may not be... Id be inclined to not countersink it for AN426s and use AN470s.
The minimum thickness of the F-0100K for a countersunk AN426AD4 is 0.050

Been there, made that mistake already. Don't countersink or dimple. They get 27xAN470AD4-6 rivets as shown on page 29-21 (step 12, callout on bottom RHS of Figure 2)

Good catch!

Hoz,

Good eye. That’s a key detail. Thank you!

Too late

Our skins are countersunk in this area already. Be nice if Vans updated the plans....

Now we have dimples in the skin. Any suggestions on how to remove if the skins are already installed? Rivet gun?
