6/9/07 - I took it out to the airport for a short flight. I still need to lower the sidetone output on my comm (thanks for the tip, Walt), but my initial impress is that it's just as quiet as the Lightspeed ANR headset I've been using for years - and a LOT lighter. No batteries. Like I alluded to earlier, when I transmitted the voice was incredibly loud - fiddling with all the usual knobs didn't solve the problem. Back at 52F Walt said that he bought the same style headset and had the same experience.
The first flight was with the 'Christmas tree' looking inserts made of soft plastic. I'll try the soft, yellow sponge inserts in a future flight. I am VERY impressed with this headset so far. You can't just throw it on like you can a traditional set, but after a couple of tries I found I could get the gear on in about fifteen seconds.
6/10/07 - I went for a short flight over to Hicks for pancakes. Before I left I went into setup on the radio and lowered the sidetone output level. All better. The flight over and back was the quietest I've ever experienced in my RV. I'm sold. I used to stow the Lightspeeds at my feet. With these feather light headphones I just drape them over the key before I get out. Leaves lots more room for my feet when I'm getting in and out. I lay the cord over my chapstick that is velcroed on the side of the fuse over near my left knee.
