$149 for a simple dipole antenna you can make out of scrap aluminum. Also note these are for composite planes - not aluminum.

Did you read the ad? Mostly for non-metal aircraft. Fiberglass wingtip (not carbon) probably okay for nav radio (I use an ‘Archer’) but tough to get enough vertical distance for good com transmission (requires vertical polarization).
 
I had a similar Archer antenna connected to a GNC255 in a Glasair.
It worked but distance was limited.
On GND it did not perform well in all directions. I got complaint from TWR.
Now I have a standard whip antenna on the outside and it works well.
