Nov 17th, 2004 - Just
came in the mail. All I've done so far is put it together in the living room
and let the kids sit in it.. I'm looking forward to flying someplace with
this. My initial thoughts are of the wildlife along a shoreline
that I might spot with the 200mm lens.

Chris Reeve Shadow III One Piece
Fixed Blade Knife

I received my
Chris Reeve Shadow III via USPS. The primary purpose of getting this
knife was to have something I can keep in the plane with me at all times that
is STRONG. If you aren't familiar with this model, it is made from one
piece of A2 tool steel. One piece. There are no multi-piece
handles, pins, bolsters or other miscellaneous items that can break when you
need to put some force on it. This is a GET IT DONE design. Smack
it, cut it, pry it - whatever the situation calls for (canopy, seat belts,
etc).
It is light (6.0 oz.), manageable and can be worn on my left side without
interfering with the seat belts, rudder cables or seats. You can store
some matches, tinder, line and small hooks in the handle. Not too
big. Not too small. If you see me out and about
in the plane and want to see this
knife, just ask.
BTW, I have owned a Chris Reeve 'Large Sebenza' folder for several years
and could not be a happier customer. If I'm not asleep or on a
commercial airliner you can bet it's in my right front pocket. Every few
months I disassemble it and bead blast the titanium handles back to like-new
condition. I beat the snot out of this folder. Long story short:
I am a fan of Chris Reeve knives.
You might feel that a high quality, strong, heavy duty knife isn't
required safety equipment for your plane. I respectfully disagree.
Some info from their website: "Designed to incorporate the two basic
criteria required in knives destined for hard field usage, these spearpoints
have plenty of blade weight and good strong points. This design has been used
by professional soldiers all over the world who have found them to be
extremely good weapons as well as rugged dependable tools. The Shadow III is a
good everyday carry knife and the pancake sheath rides high and snug. "
